Arts around town: Foto Sisters Christmas concert, BRSO’s Home for the Holidays, and more

After four months in Nashville, local musical trio the Foto Sisters have released a Christmas album titled A Foto Sisters Christmas. Available on all major streaming outlets, the album delves into both the sisters’ talents, as well as their Christian faith. To celebrate the release, the group is heading back to Baton Rouge for an event this Friday, November 30, in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church downtown. The show, which coincides with the downtown tree lighting, will start at 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public following First Presbyterian’s Live Nativity, which will take place on the church grounds at 7 p.m. To learn more about the Foto Sisters, check out this story from the inRegister archives.


Photographer Lily LaGrange’s exhibition Split Ends, which consists of a variety of images shot in both Louisiana and Iceland over the last year, will be on display at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s Firehouse Gallery through tomorrow, November 30. LaGrange says the exhibition “raises larger questions about representation, perception and truth through the use of image inversions, formal repetition and the passage of time.” Tonight, November 29, is the reception for the show from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information, visit the event page here.


The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and Pointe-Marie’s On Pointe Concert Series continues this Thursday, November 29, with local singer and songwriter Jacye Guerin performing at 6 p.m. in Pointe-Marie Square. The free event is family friendly and will feature food and drinks from Magpie Café.


Celebrating the beauty of diverse holiday traditions, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra is presenting its Home for the Holidays show this Sunday, December 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the LSU Union Theatre. The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens is hosting its annual Poinsettia Show and Sale this Saturday, December 1, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event helps prepare for future Christmas seasons by allowing customers to help decide which poinsettia varieties show up in stores. George Bell and Friends are making their way back to the Manship Theatre stage for the seventh year of holiday jazz with performances this Saturday, December 1, and Sunday, December 2. This Sunday, December 2, the LSU Rural Life Museum is once again ringing in the most wonderful time of the year with a day of 19th-century celebration at A Rural Life Christmas. From 12:30 to 6 p.m., the museum will showcase the simpler time with open-hearth cooking demonstrations, musical groups, storytellers, re-enactments, and an evening bonfire and visit from Papa Noel. Admission is $10 for anyone over the age of 10.
