West Baton Rouge Museum presents its holiday open house

The West Baton Rouge Museum invites visitors free of charge to its Holiday Open House this Saturday, Dec. 12, to ring in the season with plenty of entertainment, food and special tours of exhibitions.

The party starts at 1 p.m. with a performance by Grammy Award winner Michael Doucet of the Lafayettte-based band BeauSoleil, a group internationally known for performing the traditional, folk-inspired music of Creole Louisiana.

Between 2 and 4 p.m., the afternoon continues with holiday music, apple cider, gingerbread and plenty of activities for young and old. In honor of the museum’s current exhibition, “A Charlie Brown Christmas Turns 50,” guests can take part in Charlie Brown-inspired crafts, view a scene from the play A Charlie Brown Christmas performed by the Spotlight Performing Arts Academy, and even have some fun learning to draw with the Baton Rouge Cartoonist Society.

In keeping with the spirit, staff will also offer holiday-themed tours of exhibits and historic houses, including a vintage tableau performance inside the French-Creole Aillet House, a visit from Papa Noel, and the popular “Find the Elves” scavenger hunt on the museum grounds.
