Shine Your Light Gala to benefit Haitian relief efforts

Relief and development organization Cross Catholic Outreach and Rev. Glenn Meaux of Abbeville will host the 4th annual Shine Your Light Gala at Baton Rouge’s Renaissance Hotel next Wednesday, April 6.

The gala will feature a four-course dinner, cocktails and live and silent auctions. Chef John Folse will craft the event menu, and La Voz Kids winner Amanda Mena will perform.

Organizers aim to raise $175,000 for the Kobonal Haiti Mission, which provides housing, food, agricultural training, education and spiritual guidance to impoverished Haitians.

“When I arrived in Kobonal, it was known as ‘the darkest corner of the Diocese of Hinche.’ At that time, we found families enslaved by poverty, with little means to escape,” Meaux says.

Meaux has helped poor families in Haiti for more than two decades, and he has worked with Cross Catholic Church for the mission since 2003.

“Dreams are coming to be realized. Stability is being brought about. Being in partnership with Cross Catholic, having the faith community of Cross Catholic—we are a family. The poor will not be denied. They will have access to not only basic necessities, but also an understanding and belief in the power of God to meet their needs,” he says.
