Make plans for Plantfest

In a celebration of more than three decades of bringing people and plants together in a beautiful natural space, the LSU Hilltop Arboretum is hosting PlantFest, its 32nd annual fall plant sale, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 4 from noon to 4 p.m.

This weekend, Sunday, Sept. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m., plant lovers can get a special sneak peek during the PlantFest Teaser. At the Teaser event, LSU professor and landscape architect Wayne Womack will talk about native trees and shrubs, and Mila Berhane with Greenhand Nursery will lecture on perennials. Hilltop board president Terry Rehn will give gardeners great growing tips about ferns.

After the program this Sunday, there will be a “walk about” of the facility, with many plants already in place for the PlantFest sale. Get tickets here.

At PlantFest Oct. 3 and 4, more than 5,000 plants representing 600 different species will be available from several nurseries in Louisiana, Alabama and Texas. Landscape architects, contractors, designers and horticultural specialists will be on hand to assist with plant selection. The Hilltop Gift Shop will be open, and specialty plant and craft vendors will have booths set up on the grounds. The arboretum’s tax and membership incentives will add up to 20% savings on plants purchased during the sale. For details on PlantFest, visit the event website.
