Magnolia Mound Plantation subject of talk tonight

Executive Director of Magnolia Mound John Sykes, a member of the Southern Gardens Association, is giving a talk tonight, July 23, at 6:30 p.m. about the gardens surrounding the plantation. The talk is part of the Baton Rouge Unit of the Herb Society of America’s meeting, though the public is encouraged to attend. It’s happening at the LSU Ag Center Botanic Gardens Burden Conference Center on Essen Lane and is just $5 for nonmembers.

Magnolia Mound, a Creole plantation built in the 1700s, has been preserved and furnished with period antiques, and the grounds have also been restored. It is owned by BREC and taken care of by Friends of Magnolia Mound Plantation, a nonprofit organization. For more information on the talk, call Cathy Scarbrough at 928-3676.
