Signature Wedding: Rebecca LaPorte and Michael Murray

June 29, 2018

“Being from Baton Rouge, I knew I wanted our wedding to be all about tradition,” says Rebecca, who knew Michael throughout high school, but didn’t begin dating him until her freshman year at LSU. “We chose to get married at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, where both my parents and paternal grandparents were married. I wore a jeweled lavaliere that was a paternal family heirloom also worn by my great grandmother, grandmother and aunts on their wedding days. My wedding band was also an heirloom, having been my mother’s band from 35 years earlier. We also used to same marriage cup that my parents had on their wedding cake.”

However, everything about the couple’s special day wasn’t about the past. Starting the night with Beaucoup Boogie at the reception, Rebecca says the party was far from over.

“The reception was so much fun that we continued the party by walking about the corner to Happy’s Irish Pub,” she recalls. “I went in my wedding dress, but I was turned down at the door for not having my ID. I tried flashing my new ring and saying ‘I’m a married woman now,’ but the bouncer was not budging. Luckily, a friend following behind had my purse and I was able to continue the celebration with my friends and family.”
