On Exhibit: ‘Shadow of You’ at Kelwood Contemporary Art
Kelwood Contemporary Art is presenting the printmaking exhibition, Shadow of You, from April 20 to 29, displaying the work of LSU printmaking students Sarah Lindrew, Sophia Donze, Ben Goodman and Tony Kulp.
The group says all of their pieces connect the audience through central characters who follow personal narratives, relating to themes of the self. When asked what theme or message they are hoping to convey, each artist describes their work as personally influenced.
Sarah Lindrew
“My work explores the differences between others’ perception and personal reality through stylized imagery of characters and self. I use themes of running away from conflict and finding self-comfort to create a reflective conversation between the viewer and the work.”
Sophia Donze
“My narrative delves into themes of trauma, rebirth and personal reflection through storytelling and characters. I want to create a space for the audience to find a world outside of our own while also discussing topics still relevant to modern day.”
Ben Goodman
“Throughout my work, I convey themes of divinity, death and the idea of being reborn and how it can relate to self-growth and expression.”
Tony Kulp
“If there is a message to take from the exhibition overall, it is to listen to the voices inside yourself that you try to stifle. They have something important to say.”

The artists say they are all heavily inspired by storytelling, combining visual art and writing. They say that working in a shared studio made it easy to discuss ideas and draw inspiration from one another, making the overall exhibit more cohesive.
They note that their work reflects common stressors or doubts that people experience even when unable to freely express it. The artists want viewers to get lost in their works, see themselves in them, and realize they can survive the struggles they face and the trauma they’ve experienced, and come out stronger on the other side.
