Dish: The Overpass Merchant’s Southwestern Cobb Salad

Part of Baton Rouge’s culinary new guard, the two-year-old Overpass Merchant is a breezy gastropub in the Perkins Road Overpass District launched by Nick Hufft, the restaurateur behind Curbside Burgers in Mid City and the popular food truck that preceded it. The Merchant’s menu surpasses typical bar eats, featuring lemongrass Brussels sprouts, homemade cheese curds and tea-brined fried chicken as well as composed salads, sandwiches and daily specials. Last month, Hufft and his team added to their lunch menu a Southwestern Cobb Salad—a mighty gathering of romaine lettuce, cilantro-roasted corn, sliced radishes, roast chicken, avocado, bacon and tortilla strips tossed in roasted poblano dressing. “We’d been wanting to add more salads for a while, and knew we wanted a Southwestern Cobb,” says Hufft. “It’s fresh and pretty and has been really well received.”
