The man behind Izzo’s Illegal Burrito, Lit Pizza and Rocca Pizzeria, Ozzie Fernandez, is bringing a new venture to Baton Rouge in Modesto Taco Tequila Whiskey, which opened its doors last Friday, September 11.

With a menu of dishes inspired by his Mexican heritage and recipes from his mother and grandmothers, the restaurant is, in Fernandez’ words, “Mas Mex, less Tex.” Think tacos decked with al pestor, barbacoa and brisket birria, or perhaps the Cajun-friendly ampechana, a Mexican-style seafood cocktail.

Fernandez hasn’t ignored the last two words of his new restaurant’s name, though. A drink menu filled with house margaritas, mojitos, and, of course, whiskey, is available for pairing with your meal.
