Alice Greer – … a person of character

CONSIDERING, she gives tirelessly of herself to others. She invests her time in the lives of those around her through mentorship, leadership and friendship.

CONSIDERING, she pours her energy into many community organizations in Baton Rouge, often chairing their boards. A longtime member of the Junior League, she served as its president and now holds an advisory position on its board of directors. She has presided over Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana, Cancer Services and Inner Wheel of Rotary as well.

CONSIDERING, she is the past-chairman of the board for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and is in the midst of planning the group’s 50th anniversary celebration, slated for next spring. “We have met with other organizations who have planned large events. Everyone has been so generous with information and insight. It makes me proud to be in this community.”

CONSIDERING, she has a special place in her heart for St. Joseph’s Academy. When she was almost 3 years old, her mother died. She and her two older sisters were brought to St. Joseph’s Children’s Home, where they were raised by nuns, surrounded by community support but still doted on by extended family. She has felt called to make a difference in the community ever since.

CONSIDERING, she has established a scholarship fund at St. Joseph’s with other members of her high school class. Since their commencement, 12 fellow graduates have passed away. The Spirit of ’66 scholarship fund commemorates these women and will give financial support to a current family in need.

CONSIDERING, she is a part of the River Road Ramblers. An offshoot of the Junior League, this group goes to assisted living centers to sing and dance. “Of the many things I do, this is instant gratification. If I get a hint of a smile from one of the residents, it makes my day.”

CONSIDERING, she has been married to Bob for 47 years, has two children and five grandchildren.

CONSIDERING, she is rotating off of a few boards but will always have her hands in the community. “I will probably be a bit more behind-the-scenes, but I will always be involved in some way. There are so many people who have mentored me. Hopefully I’ve done for others as well.”
