Acrylics on the Rocks offers a haven for creativity and community
In the heart of Prairieville, bar-meets-art-studio Acrylics on the Rocks is redefining the painting experience. Owner Jesse Pike unveiled the venue to combine the therapeutic power of art with a full-service bar, establishing an environment for anyone 18 and older to unleash their creativity.
The concept for Acrylics on the Rocks took root during Pike’s high school years. “The idea started with a simple goal to make painting accessible to people who don’t have the means to create,” Pike explains. “Maybe they live somewhere they can’t paint, or they don’t have the funds for supplies. Then it morphed into more.”
After putting the idea on hold for a while, Pike’s dream became a reality when the doors opened in October 2024. The lounge offers several experiences that cater to art lovers and people who enjoy trying new things. Visitors can opt for pre-stenciled canvases or embrace their wild side in the Dynamic Chaos Room, a neon-lit space for throwing and splattering paint. For couples, the Date Night Package provides a cozy, creative outlet with spirit-free cocktails and custom canvases.
Pike touts the lounge as a laid-back, creative escape where you won’t be rushed—a sanctuary away from noisy bars or structured art classes. “It’s a calm environment,” he says. “You can have a cocktail and enjoy conversation while creating something meaningful. Or you can partake in one and not the other but stay as long as you like.”
Pike says most people enjoy the option to paint on stenciled canvas because it’s relaxing, and there’s no pressure for perfection. “You can make it your own. I’ve never seen two people paint a design the same way,” he notes. “They’re always so different. It’s wild that every person creates something completely and utterly unique. That’s pretty cool.”
The lounge’s distinctiveness extends beyond its activity offerings. A curated gallery featuring local artists adorns the walls, with artwork available for purchase, creating a harmonious relationship with the local art community. The drink menu is equally eclectic, with cocktails inspired by world-renowned artists and their origins, such as a sangria paying homage to Picasso’s Spanish roots.
Pike’s vision for Acrylics on the Rocks is more than meets the eye, though. As a transgender owner, he is committed to fostering inclusivity. The lounge prioritizes bringing people together and engaging with the community through the support of causes like The Baton Rouge Mom Network and LGBTQ+ organizations. And with plans for live acoustic music, curated art shows and more community partnerships, Pike is passionate about shedding light on local creatives, giving everyone the chance to come together, create and connect.
“Giving back to the community is integral to our mission. I wouldn’t be here today without some of those organizations,” Pike says. “It’s really important to me that we give people a place to feel comfortable and safe. This is a space where everyone is welcomed and celebrated.”
