Here Come the Trends: These styles are dominating the bridal gown market right now
When it comes to current wedding gown trends, it’s all about waistlines. Right now, they’re dropping low, as brides opt for drop-waist styles. It’s not one-size-fits-all, though. From A-line to ballgown, designers are reimagining classic silhouettes to reflect this growing trend. “We love that there isn’t one style of drop waist,” says Ramsey Sims of I Do Bridal Couture. “There are so many different versions for every bride.”
The surge in interest in drop waists started a few years ago, when basque waists came back in a big way. Finding its roots in France and Spain via peasant clothing, the style eventually made its way into aristocratic fashion in the 17th and 18th centuries as women embraced the idea of long, slim torsos that were further emphasized by voluminous skirts. Now, the style shares the same goal, though it has been modernized and reinterpreted in countless ways.
Building upon the ultra-feminine silhouettes created by these waistlines, brides can expect layers of romantic details that make each gown stand out as a unique work of art, helping to convey the wearer’s personality and her goals for her wedding day. Intricate fabrics, lace applique, beading and more come together to create distinct looks, with an emphasis on elegance and sophistication.
We can’t forget the train. Those fine details are finding their way from the bodices of gowns all the way to the floor, with beading and other details transforming the trains of dresses, as well as veils, into the show-stopping element every bride hopes for.
“Right now, I’m noticing a real appreciation for classic elegance,” Robin Gilley of Bridal Boutique notes. “Gowns with gorgeous, intricate Chantilly lace trains, and veils like cathedral and mantilla styles, often finished with sparkling crystals. It’s inspiring to watch how today’s brides are choosing details that balance tradition with a fresh, personal touch.”
