Mood Board: Modern Man Cave

Interior designer Kenneth Brown shares his inspiration.

1. Rough and refined

Combining reclaimed barn-wood walls with polished mosaic vein-cut mosaic floors is a great way to break the rules.

2. Scale and comfort

Large-scale pieces and comfortable fabrics hold the key to a well-designed man cave. My go-to sofa is Christian Liaigre’s Augustin sofa upholstered in Great Plains mohair with linen pillows

3. Trophy life

I get it: We live in Louisiana and there are a lot of shoulder-mount deer heads around here. But can we throw in a few European mounts? This gives you the option of hanging them on the wall or placing them on stands for tabletop display.

4. Screen time

If you’re going to bring in a massive TV, why not bring in a wall of TVs?

5. High contrast

Mix up textures for visual interest. I use two different woven shades for window coverings to add an interesting layer to the room.

6. Vintage character

I’ve come across so many great vintage maps of Louisiana, and this is a perfect opportunity to enlarge one to fit an entire wall.
