Details on Dancing for Big Buddy

Watch local community leaders and prominent citizens bust a move on the ballroom dance floor at the 9th annual Dancing for Big Buddy competition Saturday, April 25. The fundraiser, modeled after the hit ABC show Dancing with the Stars, will be held at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on LSU’s campus at 7 p.m. The Big Buddy Program mentors more than 1,000 children per year and utilizes the talents and expertise of more than 500 volunteers.


Women’s self defense seminar

Krav Maga, the largest self-defense organization in the world, and the Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response Center (STAR) are teaming up to host a women’s self-defense seminar at the Baton Rouge Krav Maga center on Patriot Drive this Saturday, April 18, from 12 to 2 p.m. Those who attend will learn efficient and effective defense methods against a variety of attacks. Krav Maga’s combat approach applies natural reflexes and simple techniques, making it useful for women, regardless of size or strength. The class is $20 and open to females age 12 and older.
