LaKenda Diane Johnson discovered her talent for designing stylish headbands when raising her three children. Now, she is the CEO of her own brand, Honeybee’s. Johnson’s brand celebrates diversity and self-confidence, with an abundance of styles and collections like Luxe Velvets, Pearl-Fection and Glam in the Garden.

1.   What was your reason for starting this brand? When did it launch, and how has it grown or changed since then?

The genesis of my brand was deeply personal–rooted in a transformative life experience. After the loss of my father, I felt an overwhelming urge to channel my grief into something positive, something that could mirror the resilience and strength that life’s obstacles had instilled in me. So, in honor of my father’s memory and as a tribute to his love for creativity, I re-launched my brand.

Since our inception, we have grown organically, with an ever-expanding catalog that celebrates diversity and uniqueness. Every evolution of the brand, every change, is a testament to the journey we’ve embarked upon, and each stride forward is a tribute to the resilience that birthed it.

2.   What sets your brand apart?

What truly sets our brand apart is our commitment to diversity. We believe that style is a personal language, a unique dialect that varies from one individual to another. In our offerings, you’ll find a plethora of styles, designs and aesthetics, each tailored to resonate with different individuals. Our brand is not just about selling products; it’s about celebrating individuality and the myriad ways it can be expressed through fashion.

3.   What are some of your best-selling products?

Our spring/summer along with gameday edits have been a hit, with customers loving the unique fusion of seasonal trends and timeless designs.

4.   Can you share a hint of what shoppers will see next season?

The upcoming seasons promise a lot of excitement. We are working on introducing more products to our spring/summer collection, which will include fresh takes on our beloved hair clips and bows. New gameday which everyone loves! But that’s not all. We are also planning to unveil a range of limited edition “basics” that will add a dash of excitement to your wardrobe. So, stay tuned for an exciting array of unique and fashionable offerings.

5.   What is one thing customers should know about your brand that they may not be aware of?

One thing that customers may not be aware of is the heart and soul that goes into each of our creations. Behind each product, there is a story, an inspiration drawn from my personal journey and experiences. When you purchase from our online store, you’re not just buying a product but becoming a part of a larger narrative—a narrative of resilience, diversity, and a love for unique fashion instilled in me by my mother, the fashion queen herself.
