The inRegister team’s favorite lunch spots in Baton Rouge

Let’s do lunch! A midday date means the menus are lighter, the logistics are easier for those who would otherwise need to book a babysitter, and, this time of year, the patios are actually enjoyable around Noon.

Keep reading to see where the ladies at inRegister love to lunch around Baton Rouge.

“If the weather’s nice, I’ll always choose the patio. It’s the perfect little escape in the middle of the day. My go-to order is the Caesar salad with a side of truffle fries, and if I’m with a group, we must start with the crawfish and spinach dip for the table. It’s the ideal mix of relaxed atmosphere and consistently great food.”

Superior Grill on Highland

Bourgeois’ mom and two sons.

“I have many favorite lunch spots in Baton Rouge, because there is nothing that brings me more joy than grabbing lunch with my mom—preferably while my kids are in school, but they can tag along if they must. If I had to name one, I would say Superior Grill on Highland, especially during Lent. The Lent special of salmon with orzo is the stuff dreams are made of, at least for me. The added bonus of Superior is the ambiance. It’s fun, casual and ideal if you have kids making a little noise—I promise mine aren’t the ones running through the courtyard, though.”

“The crispy fish tacos from Barracuda on Government Street are hands down my favorite meal in Baton Rouge. The fish is extra crispy, and the combination of flavors, like the crema sauce and the bursts of pomegranate seeds take these tacos to another level! Pro tip: add guac to the tacos for even more fresh flavor, and of course, a side of chips and queso.”

Counter Culture

“Easy grab and go—not too heavy for a mid-day nibble, and the Humphrey is just a must! Guilt free bc…. fruit. Right? My go-to order: chicken hot melt on the jalapeno bread with a small Humphrey.”

“I subscribe to their lunch menu emails and check them religiously. My favorite meal to see on the menu is their gourmet grilled cheese & tomato basil soup—it’s chef’s kiss! While I’m grabbing lunch, I never miss an opportunity to grab something out of their freezer for dinner as well—almost always the shepherd’s pie, which we’ve affectionately named ‘Cody Pie’ in our house because if you offer the kids shepherd’s pie, they’ll likely throw out an ick face. But a pie named after your dad? Irresistible every time!”

“Suggesting a lunch spot in the heart of downtown may seem wild, but the light yet flavorful dishes and relaxing patio vibes are worth each lap around the block looking for a parking spot. As a treat, I like to work through lunch to knock off a bit early and sit on the patio to enjoy a couple of the happy-hour menu’s unique, crowd-pleasing appetizers for a Girl Dinner vibe—The Wine Country Board and Salmon Rillettes are a must. For a fabulous lunch, you can’t beat the Cocha Salad with grilled shrimp and a zero-proof Negroni for sipping.

“The vibes are always the best. My friends and I love sitting on the patio when the weather’s nice, and we always split the chicken sandwich and truffle fries (with garlic aioli, of course). If it’s a weekend lunch, we’re probably also ordering the Interstate Love Song cocktail. It’s kiwi-flavored and so good. I highly recommend it if you’re feeling fun.
They always have great specials, and everything we’ve ever ordered has been amazing. It’s one of those places we keep coming back to again and again.”
