Designer tip: Albert Nolan on going big

Gloria and David Tutt wanted their living room to be large enough for three generations to comfortably gather. Their wish was fulfilled in the form of an airy, open space with coffered ceilings that stretch to 16 feet high at their tallest points. So as their interior designer Albert Nolan of Nolan Kimble Interiors knew, the furniture could not be puny.

“We had to choose seating that would suit the scale of this large space,” Nolan says. “These sofas are 104 inches long–plenty of room for the family to gather.”

Nolan paired the long linen sofas with an oversized square leather ottoman instead of a typical coffee table. This piece helped to fill the large rug area while also being cozy enough for feet propping–or extra seating when the crowd is especially large.

“We are really enjoying having this gathering place for all our family,” Gloria says.
