Big Easy in the Big Apple: Sunglass brand KREWE brings crawfish to New York City

New Orleans sunglasses brand, KREWE, brought the Big Easy to the Big Apple with the KREWE Krawfish Boil, held in the Meatpacking District of New York City last month. Returning for its third year, the annual event showcases Louisiana’s culture while raising funds for cancer research.

“We brought this tradition to NYC in 2023 and have continued it each year, proudly partnering with Memorial Sloan Kettering to donate a portion of proceeds in support of their cancer research efforts,” says senior manager of PR, partnerships and social at KREWE, Arianna Greenbaum. “Crawfish boils are a defining part of New Orleans and Louisiana culture, and they’re rooted in community.”

KREWE hosts the afternoon party on the cobblestone streets right outside its NYC storefront and office, which also features a natural wine bar. “Our annual crawfish boil is a beloved event, and there’s something special about watching everything fall into place–from the early stages of planning to the moment the party kicks off,” Greenbaum says.

And while the logistics of the event—including flying in over 2,000 pounds of fresh crawfish straight from Louisiana—aren’t easy, the excitement around and at the party make it all worth it. And crawfish aren’t the only Louisiana staple available for guests. Popeyes fried chicken, Zapp’s chips, oysters from Fish Cheeks, Abita beer and Crystal hot sauce round out the spread.

“This event is so special because it brings our community together around something we love—great food, drinks and good vibes,” Greenbaum says. “It’s more than just a party, it’s a day that celebrates connection, shared experiences and the spirit of community. That’s why we keep making it an annual tradition. It’s a meaningful way to gather, celebrate and create lasting memories with our KREWE.”
