Designer tip: Rod Miller on metallic finishes for less

These days, the gold-plated walls of pyramids and temples find their toned-down versions in smaller aspects of modern design, from decorative accessories to architectural accents. The other good news—you don’t need to be royalty to achieve a regal look for your home. And according to Rod Miller, design consultant for R & D Design, you don’t have to break the bank, either.

“One of the latest design trends in high-end custom homes is the use of white or off-white walls with contrasting bronze-colored steel windows,” says Miller. “While steel windows are an expensive option, you can achieve the same look by painting wood windows with bronze paint. I recommend the Benjamin Moore color called ‘Bronze Tone’ to achieve the same high-end look for a fraction of the cost.”
