“Feminine and exciting.” That’s how inRegister predecessor, The Register, described fall fashion trends in its October 1970 issue. And more than five decades later, some of those same styles are making their way back into Baton Rouge boutiques for the season.

The Register’s feature highlights several coats with bold, fur collars. While a Louisiana fall may not seem cold enough to call for fur, it’s a fashionable staple for those few chilly nights. But year-round, you still need a nice belt. And in the ’70s, belts were bold and made a statement, like the double-buckle belt featured.

Perhaps the most notable trend in the feature that has carried into today’s world is the resurgence of zebra print. The Register showcases a striking zebra print coat paired with a fur collar. Animal prints abound this year, and zebra print especially is having its moment.

As past fashion trends resurface each year, they always get new takes. But The Register’s statement remains true: fall fashion is exciting.
