When it comes to looking and feeling your best, the right color choices wield mighty power. Stylist Emily Pourciau has seen firsthand the power of color and style analysis as the owner of House of Colour East Baton Rouge. In August, Pourciau welcomed clients and the community to a grand opening of her new studio space on Jefferson Highway.

“A brick-and-mortar studio was always part of my vision for House of Colour East Baton Rouge,” she explains. “When I started the business two years ago, I knew I eventually wanted a dedicated space where clients could experience the brand beyond simply coming in for an appointment. We just needed to find the right location.”

For Pourciau, accessibility and natural lighting were top of mind while scouting for the studio location. “Because color analysis is so precise, the environment matters, and we knew we couldn’t compromise on lighting,” she adds. “It took some time to find a space that checked all the boxes, but it was worth the wait. Our Jefferson Highway studio gives us a dedicated home for the full House of Colour experience, while also allowing us to offer makeup shopping, events, education and community gatherings.”

How did you design the space to ensure clients feel comfortable and open to transformation from the moment they step through the door?

We wanted the space to feel like House of Colour before a client even sits down for an appointment. Roth Design Interiors helped us create a space that feels colorful, joyful and exciting as soon as you walk through the door. Color is obviously central to what we do, so we wanted the space to reflect that while still feeling elevated, welcoming and comfortable. Every detail was considered with the client experience in mind—from the lighting and color throughout the space to areas where clients can relax, ask questions and explore products.

Most importantly, we wanted everyone we serve to feel welcome. We work with women and men of different ages, professions and personal styles, and we want everyone who walks through our doors to feel like they have a place here. A color or style analysis can be surprisingly transformative. We often help people see themselves differently, so we wanted the studio to feel like a place where clients can be curious, have fun and feel comfortable throughout the process.

Your grand opening featured collaborations with several local, women-owned businesses. How does the physical location help you build deeper community partnerships and support Baton Rouge’s local retail and beauty scene?

Understanding and implementing your best colors and personal style is a journey, and we want to support our clients as they put what they’ve learned into practice. That might mean discovering new beauty products, finding local businesses, shopping more intentionally or simply becoming more confident in how they present themselves.

Having a physical location gives us a place to continue those conversations and create opportunities for collaboration. We’re excited to partner with local retailers, beauty professionals, makers and other businesses to create events and experiences that bring people together.
Baton Rouge has so much talent and creativity, and we love shining a spotlight on other local businesses while giving our clients more ways to shop, learn, connect and enjoy the process.

As the owner, what was the most rewarding (or unexpected) part of taking this project from concept to physical reality in Baton Rouge?

When I started House of Colour East Baton Rouge two years ago, having a dedicated studio was something I dreamed about from the beginning. One of the most rewarding parts has been watching something that existed as an idea become a physical space our clients can actually experience.

There were so many decisions and moving pieces along the way—and definitely moments when I wondered what I had gotten myself into! But seeing the finished studio and watching our clients walk through the doors made every decision worth it.

It has also been really special to have Jamie Williamson as part of this chapter. I brought her onto the business about a year ago, and she has become an important part of how we serve our clients and grow House of Colour in Baton Rouge. We collaborate on so much, from client education and presentations to events and new ideas for the studio, and I really value having her alongside me in this next chapter.

For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the business evolve from the vision I had when I started into a growing team, a physical community, and a space that can continue to grow.

Now that the doors are open, what can the community expect next from the studio?

We’re excited to host more events and create opportunities for our clients and the community to experience House of Colour outside of a traditional appointment. We’ll also be expanding our makeup shopping opportunities. House of Colour has its own makeup line designed around our four color seasons, allowing clients to shop for products that are intentionally harmonious with their coloring. We love helping clients take what they discover during their color analysis and actually implement it in everyday life.

We also have more services and experiences on the horizon that we’re not quite ready to announce yet. Our goal is for the studio to continue evolving into a place where people can discover their colors and style, keep learning, shop, connect, and feel inspired.
We’re really just getting started, and we’re excited about what this next chapter will bring to House of Colour and the Baton Rouge community.
