Custom clothing pieces and accessories are all the rage, with customers wanting unique items that show off their personal style, and local boutiques are catching on.

NK Boutique is introducing The Stitch Story, a custom Frank & Eileen white button-down that you can make completely your own, adding your choice of embroidered initials and up to 20 patches representing the things that tell your story.

Owner Anna Katherine Gladden says the idea began with her grandmother, Deedee Culotta. After Culotta suggested that Gladden stock up on some Fourth of July gear to “celebrate,” she realized how significant that word is to her business.

“The word celebrate really stood out to me because that is what we are all about at NK,” Gladden says. “We believe in celebrating the things that fill your cup and make life just a little more joyful. The big moments, the little moments, the people you love, the places you go and all of the things that make your story uniquely yours. That’s why these shirts are so special.”

With other customizations like three different thread colors (red, black or navy) for the optional embroidered initials, and thoughtful patch placement to create a balanced yet unique design, the staple shirt can become whatever you want it to be.

While shirts like Gladden’s have over 20 patches, some only have a few, and she notes that that’s the beauty of this product. For example, Nannette Kadair, from Gladden’s team, only has her initials embroidered, and three patches featuring a martini glass, a Bible and a blue heart. And sometimes, a little can go a long way, and that’s all that’s needed to make this product personal. One of Gladden’s friends, Allison Davis, says not to sweat it when it comes to customizing a new shirt. “The best thing about this is there’s no wrong way, so don’t overcomplicate it,” Davis says.
