Music is a must for any wedding. But for Richelle Sherlock and Chad Simmons, music was the focal point of and reason for their wedding. Featured as the cover couple of the June 1998 Summer Bridal Issue of inRegister, Richelle and Chad welcomed the 120-voice Auburn University Concert Choir as part of their ceremony.
“It was music that introduced Richelle Sherlock and Chad Simmons, and it was a musical extravaganza that united the two in marriage April 18 at First Baptist Church,” the original cover story states. The two met as members of that same choir while attending Auburn University, where they spent two hours in class every day and had weekly out-of-town performances. Soon after their engagement, the couple called their former choir director, Thomas Smith, and, half-joking, Richelle asked if the choir would sing at their wedding. It was a resounding yes. Smith incorporated Richelle’s selections into the choir’s spring program and arranged for the choir’s annual tour to conclude in Baton Rouge.
“It wasn’t simply a wedding, it was a moving, spiritual, musical experience for everyone—from family and friends to the members of the choir,” the cover story reads. “It was a wedding and concert, complete with organ, piano, flute and trumpet all rolled into one.” After exchanging vows, Richelle and Chad watched from the balcony, holding one another as voices sang out the final “hallelujah.”
No matter how big or outlandish your wedding day vision may seem, people always come together to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the name of love. So make the day uniquely yours and embrace the wild ideas. Your dreams just might come true.
