The outdoor booths at the 2015 Maker Faire

‘Mythbusters’ star to speak at Mini Maker Faire this weekend

The East Baton Rouge Parish Library System will host its third annual Mini Maker Faire at the Goodwood Library on Saturday, October 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free to the public and features makers of all kinds, workshops and other kid-friendly activities.

The maker movement is a trend in which individuals or groups create products using raw materials from old electronics and other discarded products. Acadian Robotics 3D Printing, the Origins of Animations with LASM, the Laptop Orchestra of LSU and many more makers will offer hands-on activities and demonstrations throughout the day.

The Mini Maker Faire will also feature special guest Jamie Hyneman, special effects expert and cohost of the Discovery Channel’s MythBusters. His one-hour presentation will begin at 1 p.m. and will include an audience question-and-answer session. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and seating is limited.

The East Baton Rouge Library’s Special Collections Department will also have a digitization booth for photographs and memorabilia. Bring in photos, flash drives or external hard drives, and a flatbed scanner will digitize up to three of your images. This is a great way to recover items damaged from the flood.
