This second birthday party was two stinkin’ cute
Baton Rouge event planner Sidney Carrier used her son’s love of trash trucks to create an eye-catching second birthday party that both kids and adults enjoyed.
Carrier originally planned a Polar Express-themed party for her December baby with the phrase “Chuga Chuga Two Two.” But soon, her son’s love for Netflix’s Trash Truck grew alongside his eagerness for the garbage truck to arrive on Wednesdays, and she knew she had to pivot.

“I thought, ‘how can I make this cute?’ because you know trash trucks are not aesthetically appealing,” she said. “So I went with pretty greens and blues because I feel like you can make any party cute if you just pull the right colors.”
This party featured several intentional elements, including trail mix party favors, a soda pop stand, stuffed animals and gummy-worm-filled garbage cans. Carrier explains that she included items for both children and their parents, especially regarding food. While she loved these details and the real-life trash truck appearance, seeing how much her son loved the theme and enjoyed the day was the best part.
For fellow parents trying to embrace their child’s sometimes unconventional aesthetic interests, Carrier says that perfecting the theme isn’t what makes a great party.
“If you’re going to stress yourself out over a theme, it’s not worth it to me,” she says. “Doing what your child loves is like seeing Disney through their eyes. Even if you have to pivot at the last minute, it’s worth seeing them so happy.”
