Spotted: Kits’ classic children’s footwear for the holidays
New Orleans-based mom of two, Coco Howe, is bravely answering the question on every parent’s mind: What shoes should my kids wear with their holiday best?
After years of having to choose between stiff, dressy options and casual favorites, Howe took matters into her own hands and created Kits.
“I started sketching designs at my kitchen table during nap times, and those early ideas eventually became Kits,” she says. “I wanted an alternative to logo-heavy sneakers: an ‘everything shoe’ that’s comfortable enough for everyday adventures but also lovely for special occasions.”
The lightweight shoes feature easy-to-clean leather and kid-friendly Velcro to make getting ready seamless, especially for can-do toddlers who insist on putting on their own shoes.
“Independence was central to the design,” Howe notes. “A Velcro strap means a two-year-old can put on their own shoes. When children can do things on their own, it gives them real pride, and it makes getting out the door easier for parents, too.”
Kits are available in sizes toddler 5 through youth 1, in pink, navy, white and light blue. Howe says white is far and away the most popular color choice.
“It’s timeless and versatile, works beautifully for both boys and girls, and complements almost any outfit,” she says. And because the leather wipes clean, there’s no need to worry about scuffs and marks, she adds.
Inspiration came not only from life as a mom of two. Louisiana culture shaped the design, too.
“In Louisiana, we don’t take life too seriously. We let our kids get messy and enjoy being kids,” Howe explains. “That shaped the design directly: breathable, washable canvas for our heat and humidity, and durable leather that wipes clean after a day of mud puddles and crawfish boils.”
So, what should your kids wear with their holiday best? Something classic and dressed up that still handles the demands of real family life.
