Louisiana’s Sugar Palace

A new book highlights the grandeur of Houmas House (pictured above), one of this region’s grandest plantations. Louisiana’s Sugar Palace is a pictorial and historic tribute to the former home of some of the country’s most successful sugar barons. The book features recent and historic photography of the restored 19th-century mansion and surrounding gardens, as well as other material from their archives. The book is priced at $95 and can be purchased by calling the Houmas House gift shop at 473-9380.

BR Green tree sale

Baton Rouge Green’s online tree sale has more than 40 varieties to inspire the gardener inside of you to get planting this spring. Choose from hard-to-find Louisiana natives, fruit trees, live oaks and crape myrtles. Orders must be placed by March 9 and can be picked up from 3 to 6 p.m. March 19 at the LSU Burden Center on Essen Lane.
