A new, modern wedding venue is taking shape. Meet the people behind The Cotten House
In 2010, Garrett Cotten’s parents built a home from the ground up in Walker, Louisiana. With an enchanting horseshoe-shaped pond and towering cypress trees, the Cottens always dreamt of turning it into a wedding venue.
Now, Garrett and his long-time friend Dakota Lang are making that dream come true as new business owners, with The Cotten House opening in spring 2027, and accepting bookings as soon as early 2026.
We talked to the venue’s project manager, Nick McDowell, about what makes The Cotten House so special.

What makes The Cotten House different from other venues?
Everything about this place will stand out. It will be extremely modern, upscale and beautiful. There will be no stone left unturned. We’re hiring lighting engineers, sound engineers, decorators and even landscape engineers. Everything about the venue will be set up for a pristine wedding.
You can have outside weddings in the yard or inside weddings here. It will have a permanent stage and dance floor built in for receptions. Many weddings bring in their own stage, and it often doesn’t look good. We called an 11-piece band and figured out what size they need, and made ours big enough to fit that.
Why do you think there’s a need for something like this?
Most of what is around is rustic, plantations or barns. So we’re building something perfect for the exclusive, clean-look wedding. After speaking with multiple wedding planners and people in the wedding world, they all agreed that there’s a need for a modern venue.
What can clients expect when booking here?
This venue caters to brides and couples seeking a high-end wedding experience. Following this, we plan to expand and build more in other states. However, the clientele will always be those seeking a classy and exclusive experience. There will always be an opportunity to incorporate a Southern charm look, given that it’s a Louisiana house, but overall, it’s sleek and elevated, offering something new.
