Keep learning, keep exploring: Discover OLLI at LSU

Sponsored by OLLI at LSU

Ever wanted to follow your curiosity and learn more without the stress of exams and grades?

That’s the idea behind OLLI at LSU, a lifelong learning community designed for adults ages 50+ who want to explore new interests, develop hobbies, stay active, and connect with others. With more than 100 courses, field trips, and special events available across South Louisiana, OLLI at LSU offers plenty of ways to turn “I’ve always wanted to learn that” into a new experience.

An annual OLLI at LSU membership is $50 and is valid between July 1 through June 30 of each year. Membership gives participants access to courses and activities across all four OLLI at LSU chapters, so members aren’t limited to the offerings closest to home. Additional course and trip fees may apply.

The four chapters include Lagniappe (Baton Rouge), Crescent City (New Orleans & Metairie), Camellia City (Slidell & Covington), and Felicianas (St. Francisville & New Roads). Some offerings are also available online, making it easier to find opportunities that fit different schedules and interests.

The Fall 2026 catalog illustrates just how broad those interests can be.

In Baton Rouge, the Lagniappe Chapter offers Digital Safety in the Age of AI: Scams and Online Privacy, a timely course covering practical ways to navigate an increasingly digital world. Some other options include Exploring Cajun and Creole Cuisine, French Conversation for Beginners, Face Yoga and Skin Health after 50, and Pickleball for Beginners.

For those drawn to New Orleans culture and history, the Crescent City Chapter offers African Roots and the Culture of New Orleans, exploring the influence of West African ethnic groups on the city and its culture. Members can also explore Genealogy: Finding Your Roots and other arts, history, and cultural offerings.

The Camellia City Chapter brings opportunities to the Northshore, with offerings ranging from arts and history to movement and wellness. And members of the Felicianas Chapter can try something creative in Fall Fun with Clay Pottery Class, where participants learn to create fall-themed pieces, including a serving dish, butter dish, and decorative pumpkin.

The variety is part of the appeal. One class might mean learning about Louisiana history; the next could involve picking up a paintbrush, discussing a book, discovering a new recipe, or learning a dance. Along the way, OLLI at LSU creates opportunities to meet people who share a similar enthusiasm for learning and trying something new.

Whether the goal is to develop a hobby, stay mentally and physically engaged, explore a long-standing interest, or simply add something different to the calendar, OLLI at LSU offers a welcoming way to keep learning at every stage of life.
