Summer in south Louisiana is a tale of opposites. Sweltering temps are combated by swimming parties and ice-cold pitchers of lemonade (or a gallon from Raising Cane’s!). Bored kids, now freed from the restrictions of distance learning, might sometimes find themselves stepping away from their small screens to take part in big imagination-filled adventures outdoors. And as the crape myrtles bloom and the butterflies flit through our yards, it’s worth remembering that–no matter how hot it gets–summer here is a season worth celebrating, especially this year when we have come to cherish those we love more than ever. So drag the table into the yard and top it with some pretty blossoms, and pass around the lemonade.
