Local interior specialist Kayla Childress gave her bedroom a makeover, transforming the primary suite of her Woodstock Park home with thoughtful layering and curated pieces that reflect her personal style. “This project is especially meaningful because it serves as the truest expression of my signature aesthetic,” she says.

It all started with the chinoiserie panels from Blue Dog Furniture that Childress found while shopping for a client. She knew she had to have them, and ultimately used them as an anchor for the rest of the room. To fulfill her vision of a dark, cozy room, Childress layered warm colors, heirlooms and upholstery, blending the traditional Southern and European styles she loves.

“I knew I wanted to go dark, but I didn’t want it to feel cold,” she says. “So I picked this color because this brown has a lot of warmth to it, and I love the drama”

Creating her own take on the latest color-drenching trend, she painted her walls in Sherwin-Williams’ “Black Bean” and used velvets, wood and brass to connect its warmth throughout the room. Childress incorporated more traditional pieces like her existing Birch Lane bed to lighten the space and incorporate some Southern charm.

“Rather than chasing trends, my goal was to demonstrate how thoughtful layering, meaningful collections and a sophisticated color palette can transform a builder-grade room into a luxurious retreat without requiring a major renovation,” she says.

Adding finishing touches like the Jennifer Taylor chair and ottoman seen above, along with vintage nightstands and brass accents throughout the room, Childress created the boutique-hotel feeling she always had in mind for her space. Keep scrolling for more photos of the space.
