Hot enough for you?Well, some Baton Rougeans are keeping cool by doing somecool stuff.
For instance, Mary Mowad Guiteau and sister KarenSteven flew to Los Angeles for the finalé of AmericanIdol. Their seats were “amazing,” according to Mary, “16 rows from the stage! We sat in the sectionwith the contestants’ families, and on Wednesday night, several ofthe celebrities were just a couple of rows in front of us… I still can’t believe we were actually there!”
PhyllisMouton, mother of our June 2007 cover bride, is playinggrandmother this summer. Leah and Micah Jordan are the proudparents of a baby girl, Khloe Madison Jordan, which explainswhy Phyllis is finding any excuse to travel to Houston. You know, babies pretty much come whenever they’re good andready - even on holidays. So, to make having towork on a holiday a little easier for the gangin labor and delivery at Woman’s Hospital Memorial Day, Dr.Marshall St. Amant fired up the grill on the plaza.Burgers and hotdogs for all!
Speaking of hotdogs … theiconic painting “Dogs Playing Poker” has nothing on the8-year-old dachshund Mayer P. Stiel, Zehnder Communications’ officedog. The tuxedo-clad pooch recently debuted on the Reuters/NASDAQ Digital Tower Billboard in New York as part ofthe Purina Dog Chow “Picture Your Dog in TimesSquare Event.” Gee, we knew him when he was justa little weenie! Wonder if we’re still on the birthdayparty list?
Also getting national attention recently was Little House& Co., Baton Rouge’s chi-chi boutique for the youngerset. The Towne Center store got a very cool mentionin the May issue of Southern Living magazine, as didthe city itself.
Remember that cool PlayStation game your kidshad, “Where in the World is Carmen Santiago?” BatonRouge has its own version: Where in the World isChef Mark Maggio? Well, we’re here to report the 30-year restaurant veteran has joined the Southern Belle Sandwich Co.as executive chef and director of product development for thecatering division. Sandwich trays may never be the same!
Ibet Mark can take care of your catering needs ifyou end up the lucky winner of the set offour season tickets to LSU’s regular season home football games. In a cool benefit for the Arthritis Association of Louisiana,a drawing for the tickets, located in Section 617 ofthe upper west deck of Tiger Stadium, takes place Aug.22. Tickets are $20 and available by calling 761-8230, 1-866-390-8736 or online at
www.aaola.org.
Sylvia Duke usually finds some cool LSU memorabilia forthe Old Governor’s Mansion Gala’s silent auction, which she’s chairedfor 10 years! For this and her often “behindthe scene actions” on behalf of the Old State Capitol,Pentagon Barracks, Old Arsenal Museum and Historic Magnolia Cemetery, theFoundation of Historical Louisiana is honoring her at its 32ndAnnual Preservation Awards Banquet July 24 at the
City Club. And how cool is this? Ann Hardin Shaw became the11th optometrist in her family when she graduated from theUniversity of Memphis’ Southern College of Optometry in May. Celebratingwith the graduate at a dinner hosted by her parents,Jan and Dr. Roger Shaw, were grandfather Dr. Roger F.Shaw Jr., brother Neil Shaw of Oakton, Va., and sisterMignon Shaw Swenson of Plano, Texas.
Keep It Cool!
