InRegister • July 2008 62 InFocus CRISIS: Jim & EdithMoore, Polly & Kurt Himmel “They do everything frompull weeds to holding hands.” That’s what Crisis Center Foundationexecutive director Frank Campbell said in describing the totality ofJim and Edith Moore’s completeness of service and volunteerism tothe Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center. They have served asphone volunteers, loss team members and helped install and maintainthe center’s meditation garden, where a bench is named inhonor of their late son. The Moores have also beenrecognized nationally for their efforts. The Moores were honored for36 years of service at a reception June 8 atWilliamsburg Retirement Center hosted by the center’s Survivors of SuicideSupport Group. In 1981, the Moores, along with another parent,founded the support group and have remained active participants andfacilitators. A plaque from Gov. Bobby Jindal was presented tothe honorees. Campbell also announced a campaign to dedicate thecenter facility on Revere Avenue in honor of the Moores’service. Crisis Intervention Instructors Leonard Augustus, Rick & Melanie Seeling,Rick Caballero & Rick Carpenter THANK-YOUS AND IDEAS wereswapped at a luncheon for participants in Big Buddy’s secondannual Dancing with the Stars fundraiser. Dance studio instructors, dancersand organizers talked about ways to make next year’s eventeven better than the record-setting April 26 star-studdedevening. Song sheets were placed on every table at the150th anniversary celebration of LSU’s Zeta Zeta chapter of DeltaKappa Epsilon fraternity. A large contingent of Dekes and theirspouses filled the Riverview Ballroom of the Hilton Capitol Centerfor the May 17 celebration. The evening got underway witha cocktail reception and wrapped up with Frank Maselli ofNew Orleans leading everyone down memory lane via song …most of the Dekes remembered the words and didn’t needthe song sheets. The seated dinner was part of threedays of festivities celebrating the fraternity’s founding at LSU. The“Band of Brothers” kicked things off Friday night witha reception at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum’s BertS. Turner Family Atrium. Turner and Frank Purvis served ashonorary chairmen for the sesquicentennial celebration. Other events include aprivate tour of the LSU football facilities followed by LuckyDogs and beer at Fred’s Bar & Grill and afarewell brunch at the Varsity.
