Andrew Roth’s pre-engagement
regime shows the fortitude ofa trained collegiate athlete.
One of his most precious
giftsto his beloved, Samantha Mainieri,
was securing the perfect sitefor their
wedding itself. And it sure wasn’t easy.
“We wanted to get married at the
Basilica of theSacred Heart on the Notre
Dame campus. There is nothingmore
beautiful,” says Samantha. Since both she
and Andrew areNotre Dame alums, they
knew the site is extremely popularfor
wedding ceremonies and that its phone
line only opensone day per year for
couples to call and reservedates.
“You are only allowed to get married
thereif you work at Notre Dame, or if
you area student or alum. So, it’s already
really limited. Then, there’s just that one
day, one phone line, one secretaryfor people
to call,” Samantha explains. “Andrew
and Iweren’t engaged yet, but I knew we
would be soon.Still, I wasn’t about to call
and reserve a datewhen I wasn’t even
engaged!”
Fortunately, Andrew took on thetask
before he even proposed. In March 2008,
after 580calls, he was able to reserve a
date for Oct.10, 2009.
“Andrew woke up at 4 a.m.to start
calling. He even had his dad and histennis
teammates call,” Samantha says. “By
