Before dinner, take atour of the 19thcentury mansion and its grounds. Stop fora cocktail at the bar, which stands where coachmen oncewaited for carriages. Reyes refers to his work as artisan, and his intention is to have diners understand andappreciate that someone took the time to make this.To achieve those standards, Reyes kitchen uses always fresh, mostlylocal, ingredients. Currently on the menu aredishes such as crawfish bisque, with crawfish tails cooked withherb saint, sweet corn foam and a crawfish head. Thebisque will be on the menu at least through February.Another current item is the braised pork belly, a heartychoice for a winter dinner. And no matter the season, always popular at the restaurant is anything prepared on thepecan wood-fired grill, which lends a distinctive flavor toeverything from steaks to fish to pork chops. While everycorner is beautiful, Reyes recommends one spot in particular fordining at The Mansion: the rotunda, which offers the bestview of the lighted oaks, fountain and iris pond.
