Both indoors and outside, the crowd imbibed theatmosphere created by musical entertainers Michael Foster Project, Artemis, KingJames, Jeffrey George and Kirk Holder, as well as samplingsfrom a host of area restaurants, wineries and Mockler Beverage.President and CEO of Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge(ACGBR) Derek Gordon thanked the crowd and the cityfor its continuing support and helped Mayor Kip Holden announcethe 2009 court in grand style. The event featured atantalizing silent auction, with proceeds (along with ticket sales)going to the ACGBR, which provides arts education in schoolsand at the Community School for the Arts, and supportsartists and art organizations across 11 parishes. Knights of Columbus Councilfrom St. Joseph Cathedral prepared a jambalaya meal, and BatonRouge Diocese Council of Catholic Women donated a king cakefor dessert. Coca-Cola provided drinks for the Mardi Gras-themed party. Members of Les Danseurs de la Capitale entertainedattendees with Cajun dances as well as a second line,complete with decorated umbrellas. King Herbert Fotso of Cameroon andQueen Sireesha Kanura of India led the parade. Rose MaryPoirrier was chairwoman for the event, assisted by Frances andCharles Bennett, Henry Bradsher, Laura Prosser-Davis, Mary Furlow, Virginiaand Charles Grenier, Elise Grenier, Maureen Hewitt, Greg and DeeJones, Louise Prosser, Helen Reynaud, Vicki Vance and Jo Zganjar.
