Sculptor and fiber artist Rachel Hayes willcreate a unique installation at the LSU School of Art’sGlassell Gallery, on view Feb. 28-March 29. A receptionand gallery talk will take place March 7 from 5-8 p.m.
Hayes uses innocuous and readily available mediasuch as fabric to create spectacular experiences of color andmotion in otherwise unappreciated settings. She has turned narrow hallways,city walkways and grassy hills into vital and vibrant artinstallations, causing viewers to step back and reassess their familiaritywith the environment.
Hayes will work with LSU sculpture studentsto create the site-specific installation.

As part of The Big Read:One Book/One Community, Thomas Whitehead will give a gallerytalk on Clementine Hunter Feb. 21 at 2:30 atthe Scotlandville Branch Library’s Clementine Hunter collection. He will alsospeak Feb. 22 at 2:30 at the Pride-ChaneyvilleBranch. Whitehead is an author and lecturer and was apersonal friend of Hunter. He has lectured extensively on theartist’s life and works.

Throughout the Mardi Gras season, the LSU Museumof Art will display 11 original prints by Caroline Durieuxfrom her series on Carnival. The prints were done in1946, showing the festivities of Fat Tuesday from the earlymorning parades to the evening balls.
